Update from the cardiologist appointment I had yesterday. So I go in, get the vitals done, then an EKG. About 10-minutes later cardiologist doc comes in, looks at the EKG printout, checks my lungs and heartbeat (stethoscope) ask how I'm feeling and then tells me that according to the EKG and heart rhythm he listened to I'm currently in the middle of an Atrial Fibrillation episode at that very moment.

Kind of floored me with that bit of info considering that there are Defibrillators hanging off the walls all over the place and I've always been told that a Fibrillation episode can be an instant death sentence unless help arrives with a Defibrillator quickly.

He then continues on as if nothing is going on, to discuss remedies like medications to control my heart (different from the Metoprolol that I'm presently on), Artrial Ablation, or open-heart surgery. And of course the . . . you've got to lose weight, exercise more, and here's a script to reduce your bodies water retention and bloating problems. "Oh, and don't wait too long trying to decide which route you want to take." - WTF!

Then it was off to get my Zoster jab (for Shingles) with the warning that the next day (today) my arm is going to be sore and I'll probably be real tired (both being typical symptoms of that vaccination). So here I sit with a sore arm, a HUGE mug of coffee while trying to stay awake while pounding the keyboard on OSA.
Shoot Chuckie, Man I would be nervous too. Hope you get it all figured out. Keep us updated on what route you take. Prayers man.

With all that going on, I bet you’re glad you didn’t mention the pee problem.

That rationale is about like dropping a cloth on your hand. It didn't hurt so what the heck I will leave my hand there for someone to drop a anvil on it. It couldn't hurt any worse I mean the cloth didn't. We have all done stuff like that and regretted it "Believe Me". Hope it's better tommorrow not worse. You have my sympathy. 🙁

Here, but occasionally There.
surely they will sedate you? A nerve block is SOP these days but you should still be under. They wont want you awake when Sawbones goes to sawing

Something I read in the booklet that they gave me stated that there would be the spinal block, but then I would be given a sedative to put me into a light sleep state.

So, maybe I won't be aware of what is going on after all.

I'm almost positive you will be asleep. Its a bit of a violent procedure to remove a knee joint with saws and chisels.
Watch it on youtube if you have the stomach for it.
And the block goes near the knee, not in the spine.
My last knee surgery, they came in the pre-op room with an ultra sound to locate the nerves in my knee and injected something. I never felt it.

Update on that in bold letters:

I'm now scheduled for January 22 to have partial knee replacement on both knees. X-rays showed that the inner part of both knees are bone on bone, so something is going to have to be done. At least with partial replacement, the recovery time shouldn't be too long.

My only issue is that the surgery will be done with a spinal block instead of general anesthesia, so I'm not sure I want to be aware of what all is going on.
I had a partial at McBride and was totally out. It didn't work well since my kneecap kept dislocating during physical therapy. They converted it to a full and I've had 2 revisions since with poor results. I hope yours is better. Most people are walking fine after 6-8 weeks and able to resume doing about anything in 4-6 months.

My wife has had both knees replaced. It’s a VERY violent procedure, and I know you don’t want to be in any state of consciousness while they’re doing it.

My knees were cut with a robotic machine. They don't use saws and chisels like the old day. It's more like jigs and bone saws, LOL. The nerve blocks I received, one went into the hamstring. The needle is roughly 5-6 inches long and they pretty much fish for the nerve while you are awake. They give you fentanyl to not make it too uncomfortable, but I thought it was very uncomfortable on my first TKR. They want you to relax and not tense up while they do it.
