I was on that road once coming back from an elk hunt with an animal in the back of the truck with the cruise set on 90. Saw a semi coming from a long way off, but didn't see the NM Deputy coming right behind him that got me on instant radar. On the 'other' route, I've done the 81 miles of nothing between Clayton and Springer in 52 minutes.
Did the license, blah, blah, and he went back to his vehicle.
About 10 minutes later he came back, handed me my license, said he knew it was tough to follow the 60 mph speed limit on that stretch of road, but asked me to slow down and gave a verbal warning.
As soon as he went the other way, the cruise went back up to 90. I drove that stretch for about 11 years on elk hunts as well as RV'ing through there. The Deputy was the first LEO encountered.
