Own guns, abuse drugs, go to prison!

So I was watching 48 Hours, and this guy gets charged with a "little used" federal law.

He was taking too many Lortabs and owned guns, so he got a year,in prison.

That being said, I'm sure there were other circumstances involved.

Yeah, there wasn't much detail on that part of the story. It was kind of a side note to the whole situation.

The man was a suspect in a murder case, and he admitted to prescription drug abuse.

The murder trial ended with a hung jury, and then he was charged with this federal crime, and got a year in prison for it.

It made it sound like there was a federal law against owning guns while abusing drugs that anyone could be charged with. ???
