Many moons ago I carried a beretta 25 as a back up gun. Of all the dissenters of the 25acp that were polled 100% of them refused to take a round to the vest. Now I’m no statistician nor does my last name rhyme with a boob, but I think that’s a great start!
My second test was dropping a button buck at close range; back when that was an acceptable means of taking. It didn’t bounce off him, he didn’t laugh or anything like that. He hopped kicked and darted about 10’ and died.
YMMV but I always liked the 25

I own and enjoy shooting my pair of Taurus pistols,,,
One in .22 LR and the other in .25 ACP.

With high velocity .22 ammo the 22-PLY would probably be just as effective as ball ammo in the 25-PLY,,,
But then again the old "centerfire is more reliable than rimfire" statement is also valid.

The 25-PLY has a spot in my car that fits it perfectly,,,
Hidden from sight yet immediately accessible to me.

I went for the 25 because the 25-PLY holds 10 rounds,,,
While the smaller 22-PLY only holds 9 rounds.

My EDC is a Ruger LC9s and I carry it "most" of the time I'm out and about,,,
The little 25-PLY simply lives in my car full-time as a "just in case" gun.

Any working gun is better than no gun at all.
