Bmx's story reminded me of when I found myself in a similar situation. I was returning from a gun show in OKC and had stopped for fuel. I was fueling when I heard a voice say, Sir. Sir. Excuse me sir. I'm sorry to bother you" I turned to look at the man who had spoken to me. He told me that he was on his way home to Clinton from Texas and had run out of money. I had heard these scam stories before, so I told him that I was paying for my gas with a card as I did not carry cash. He said that he understood and appreciated my time. I stopped him and told him that I would give him some change from my ashtray if it would help. He said it would so I gave him the 4-5 dollars in change. He thanked me and walked into the store. (Of course, I assumed he was going to buy beer or cigs.....Oh, well.) After fueling I went into the store to use the restroom. When I came out, the man I had given the money to was walking out the door. I approached the clerk and asked him what that man had purchased. He told me, " three-something in gas. Why?" When I got out to the truck, my wife told me that the man had stopped at the truck again to thank us, and ask if it was OK with us that he kept a dollar or so of the change so he could buy some bottled water. She said that he told her if it wasn't OK, he would give it back. She told him it would be fine. I looked over and saw him putting fuel in his truck. I walked over to him and told him that I was going back inside to pay for $25 more fuel for him and wished him luck in getting home. He thanked me again, shook my hand, and said "God bless you"
