Grandson wanted a .30-06, for Christmas. Tried to talk him into different calibers, but he wouldn't budge.
He got him the .30-06, it came with a box of 180gr Hog Buster.
He fired 1 round and wouldn't touch the rifle again.
I loaded some 115gr PC with 16.9 gr Trail Boss.
Gives 2500-2600 fps. Simulates a mid-range .25-06 and very mild recoil and QUIET.
He loves it.
Loaded same bullet and Trail Boss in .30-30, for 2200-2300fps, for younger grandson.
Boys shoot both loads/rifles into 1", 5 shot, 50 yrs groups.
Max loads are not always best or even necessary.
