Pit bulls fatally maul suspected Georgia home invader

An older Navajo sheepherder got bit by one of his sheep dogs and ended up killing it. He brought the dog with him to the Shiprock ER and the doctor kept it for us to collect a specimen and ship it to the state of NM for rabies testing. Only place to keep it cold was the morgue.

So a co-worker and I ended up using the morgue exam/prep table to remove the head.

You can only test for the rabies virus by examining brain tissue of a dead animal.

when I was about 10yo I was breaking up a dog fight and got bit by the dog that was losing badly, had to get stitches, felt sorry for the dog they put to sleep to test for rabies, the dog was only trying to fight back

I tried to get insurance through AAA and they asked if I had any dogs and I said I had two pit bulls and they wouldn’t insure me. State Farm never asked the question and I have never seen or heard nothing about not being able to own them.

I believe the pit bull ban was overturned; thereby still requiring a un-provoked attack (there may be other elements also). However, I do believe there are homeowner insurance implications for owning certain breeds.

My dogs are like my kids. I would expect if someone got in my house they would take them out pretty quick. But if they didn’t I would love them anyway. My stuff can always be replaced. But my dogs are incredibly smart. It’s crazy.
