Ironically, conservative states take more federal aid than liberal states.

Why do you think that is? Are the liberal states just much more well ran? Are conservative states just poorly managed beggars? Or is there some other factor at play?

I have a theory that it has to do with population density and thus a larger tax base more so than conservative states being economically inferior.

Let's also not forget that a huge portion of the federal money that goes to conservative states are directly related to the military bases there.

I think the fact may be that the conservative states are generating more of the money that pays the federal aid might be why.
