It’s cheap until it leaks. Friend bought a house and on the day of closing they go to the house to find it has flooded because the water line ran into the attic froze.
Man. Surprised that happened. Pex can freeze hard and not burst. Wonder if they used fittings and didn't insulate it? I wouldn't put fittings up there or leave it bare in an open attic.
I would never run water through the attic. I have a two high efficiency heaters in the attic. Both require condensation drains. The drain on the unit that heats the upstairs has frozen several times. I have insulated with pipe insulation then wrapped with fiberglass.
When that drain feeezes it shuts off the heater. Terrible design to be located in an uninsulated attic.
