The official status and word is as follows. (feel free to skip the rest of the post)

hand surgery in his future to repair damages. He severed a tendon, vein and nerve inside his hand and shaved part of the bone. 2 sutures inside his hand and 8 out to get it closed up.

And looks like I'll be spending less time on here and shooting to help them with the work. And here I thought I was done with anything relating to construction and remodels.
