Most of mine are hand me downs from my Dad. Some are worth something (Belgium made Browning SA22 thats older than I am), most arent. I would like to protect the wood. Some is just stained, others like the Browning are laquered. What do you use and is it available locally?

As long as the coated stocks don't show any wear through the varnish or whatever is on them, they probably don't need anything. The oiled stocks, unless they look dry, probably don't either. If they do look dry, there are several linseed oil based products that will restore them to their original appearance. I would probably just use boiled linseed oil--sparingly.
