to pass my time in between deer season, i help coach little league baseball in my town with two of my good friends. two of them being a baseball buddies of mine since high school. we have had a lot of great coaches and been in a lot of good camps in the past. the other with a solid baseball back ground also. so here has been our best yet.....
to start this off, this is our teams first year to play what i call "real baseball", no more coach pitch HAHA. we joined these guys up just at the end of last year for a game or two and they just meshed together really good and so this year we got everyone back together and entered the USSSA 9u single "A". we are mostly a travel team, no league play. our boys had to learn the basics; pitch, steal, and play some real ball, so a lot of new work has been added to them and they handled very well. we age mostly 8yrs old maybe two 9yr olds and we played in a few 10A, 10AA and even some 10AAA so we really tested these guys to pushem hard and play some big boy ball. as usuall our season had its up and downs and met a lot of good teams threw out the season. we won a few games threw out the season and got an invite to the STATE TOURNAMENT in Tulsa. once there we met the top ranked USSSA 9u A leaders the 51 Bombers. the Bombers were a solid group of kids and played some great ball. but at the end of the battle our boys the PERRY COLTS had risen as the victors! we went undefeated threwout the entire State Tourny, i/we could not be more proud of them!!! this is a first for a 9under team to win state in our little town !
now part two of this great adventure. with that win and a few others before it this allowed us an invite to the USSSA 9u "A" Little League World Series in Cedar Hills, TX. you have to be a somebody to get to this level and be ready to play so we wanted to pushem and put them at that level, we coaches thought "i never had a chance and they should". we asked the kids if they wanted to go and they said YES! so with some hard work at fundraiseing we got enough to get the kids and their families down there for a week of activites and some really good ball games. at the series they have a parade, competition events, and introduce the teams to the crowd. our pool play started friday and we had three games. we won two and tied one, the game that was tied was against the 9u Ferris Yellow Jackets (Texas team) which was the undefeated 9u A Texas State champs. Saturday the tournament started and we had to win because playing out the losers bracket was going to be long....well wish granted we won our first and the rest of the day off. sunday we had to face the Yellow Jackets and there was going to be no tie this time....our guys showed up and played some really good ball and it payed off with a win. we had to wait awhile to see who we would face out of the losers bracket.....Yellow Jackets again. with some resting time for the Jackets the game started and it was a close one; great pitching battle and good D-fense from both. But there can be only one and our boys did it yet again!!!!! we won it all!!! undefeated threw out the Series !! so for our guys this has been the best year/season and i gotta brag on them a little. no team in our town at this age has done this. it truely is great to be part of it all and i could not be more proud of them.
my son aka...LIL MAN (smallest guy on the team..lol) had a tough time threw out the tourny, but in the finals he went 2-2 and scored in some runs...so yes my nerves were shot...LOL...but defiantly a PROUD DADDY!!! love you son!!! and GO COLTS!
thanks for your time and enjoy the rest of the summer, i know i will!!!!!
