Plus, I've not seen/heard any of the helicopter responses to the air traffic controller. Understand they're on a different frequency but would be nice to release all communications so folks don't just fly off the handle on conspiracy theories. If you've got a supervisor pilot and a jr pilot, why didn't one of them see the big bright lights of the CRJ and do one of those Magnum PI bank and roll maneuvers?

I've got to think that the pentagon probably has the resources to notify next of kin pretty quickly.

As I understand it, the military still does this sort of thing in person, and it takes time to get a person to a front door. If his next of kin lived in rural Mississippi, it could’ve taken hours to drive there from the nearest base.

^^ Not only that, but the Pentagon doesn't have control over whether or not next of kin is home, answers calls, etc. I'm sure they're doing the best they can.

I can assure you that modern night vision goggles, especially aviation rated goggles have incredible depth perception and have for over 20 years. Now monoculars, like the PVS-14 don't allow for depth perception, because you are using it with only 1 eye, but a pair of 14s in a bridge mount restores depth perception nicely because of binocular vision. Field of view is still narrow however.

Binocular vision has no effect on depth perception past around 20 ft. The cues after that are monocular.
The current NVGs are quite good, but still have limitations. Not sure how much that factored into this. We'll see.

Neither plane nor helicopter seem to react at all before impact. Understand the helicopter if they didn't see the plane. But would the plane not see the helicopter at least a few seconds before? I know it's not a fighter jet and the plane might not have physics-wise been able to do anything, but just curious if there was any evidence that the plane reacted in any way?

Skip forward to the 3 min mark. This video is not from the cockpit of the American flight that crashed, just shows the extreme amount of lights, light clutter, flashing beacons, etc. I just they didn't see each other.
