Yep, the nylon buffers in those tend to deteriorate over time. The part is cheap but not always the easiest to change.
My wife's grandfather gave me his old Marlin Model 60 with the same stock as yours. Little squirrel engraved in it. I used to know exactly what year & that stuff cause I looked it all up once but cant remember now. Mine was having cycling issues & I thought it was gonna need parts but after dis-assembly & really deep cleaning it now cycles great. Love that little rifle, accurate as hell too.
beautiful gun. Open it up and check the buffer before you go shoot. They are known to disintegrate.
Yeah, I checked it out when I had it apart for a cleaning. It looked a little discolored, but in tact. I'm planning on ordering a spare.

Boy was I wrong. I just took it apart again and I'm glad I decided to take a second look at the buffer that was in it. It has now been replaced.

Glad you did. That would have just broken up in the action, and caused some havoc. Now shoot the sucker. You will love it.
