I never had the pleasure of firing a M-1 .30 carbine. Certainly admire them. Fired a Marlin 30-30 lever action maybe 100-150 times, in my younger years. Hunted deer with it a couple times, never got a shot at any game. Zeroing iron sights and practicing from the bench and offhand, field positions was always unpleasant, uncomfortable for me. Felt recoil seemed sharp, hard, unreasonably painful to me. Don’t know why. My Winchester model 70 Sporter in 30-06 Springfield caliber never bothered me like that 30-30.? I competed in Highpower Rifle matches with a CMP M-1 Garand chambered for 30-06 for years, too, with no problem. Also participated in Military Bolt Action rifle matches, firing a 1903-A3 in 30-06, with no problem. Was wearing my riflemans’ jacket, though.
