I inherited a 1911 and some ammo. The ammo is old and appears to be reload. I am not sure how long ago the reload occurred - note in box said Match 1976. With these circumstances I am not comfortable shooting it. Any suggestions on disposing of the ammo? Someone mentioned that the police will take it and dispose of it. Does that sound right?
Give it to a reloader. They can pull the bullet in most cases, get rid of the powder, and recycle the components.
Pull it apart, dump the powder and reload with your powder of choice.
