Just picked up my first 9mm over the weekend. I bought ammo at WM today for 23 cent per round. What do you think the cost per round is to roll my own, not counting the price of the brass cause I will save my brass as I burn up factory ammo. Can I really do that much better then 23 cent per shot. I know it will depend on what bullet and what/how much powder I use so a ball park estimate will suffice. Just trying to decide if I should get the dies and start collecting the components. Thanks in advance.

Get off my lawn.
If you shoot cast boolets from J&K they are 6 cents each if you buy 1000. Figure 3.5 cents each for primers if you buy them at H&H for 1k (Just bought some CCI SPPs there for 35/k). If you're loading with titegroup say 4 grains at 20 dollars per pound (ballpark) figure 1 cent per round.

That's 10-11 cents per round with your brass and cast bullets.
J&K bullets are fantastic. I'd shoot them exclusively for my handguns if I didn't have a suppressor. I have to buy jacketed bullets for use with the silencer.

Montana Gold Jacketed bullets are around $100/k so 10 cents per round for the bullet same price for the powder and primer.
14-15 cents per round with your brass for jacketed bullets.

You can get these a hair cheaper if you bulk buy a case of 4000 for around $290 for 115gr FMJ. That puts you back at 10-11 cents per round by buying a ton of bullets.

Dustin hit it. Yes you can save on 9mm, but it's still the least cost effective for reloading. Now if you get a .38/.357, THEN you hit the savings. Rifles are also MUCH cheaper to reload.

If you start reloading, you can find it a very enjoyable hobby in itself. Makes the shooting more enjoyable too knowing you put the ammo together yourself.

A mid range option between J&K's Cast lead and MG Jacketed that I like is Berry's plated bullets. 9mm runs 8 cents or so per k. My cronies and I shoot a lot of them. Shipping on orders over 50 bucks is free but it takes like 4 weeks for them to hit your doorstep.
