Driving to school at 14 because you had chores to do and would miss the bus (cop knew who you were and left you alone unless you acted stupid)

Not. I'm going back to early 70's. Although there was a Mrs. Cheatham. I think a speech teacher.

He was old as dirt (or appeared to be to a 13 year old) in the 80's, so it's possible. He had the rep as a verry hands on with discipline VP. I personally saw him slam one kid into a locker.
