Some Flitz works too. I used the Lyman turbo charger for a long time. The Flitz is about the same thing. Some 3M Finnesse it would work too.

It may even be the discoloration from annealing that the OP is seeing.

Remington core lock factory ammo should not have an annealed appearance.
Some ammo inside the necks has an awful black tarish looking substance, hard to remove.
This is some sort of sealer i think.
maybe it does have an annealed appearance though as i have not bought ammo or seen remington store ammo in person in a year.
Gotta love reloading.

Annealed necks would show inside and out. They would look discolored, but not "dirty." I suspect the tumbling media isn't getting down inside the case well enough to scrub all the carbon and burnt power out of the necks. The inside of the cases - especially around the flash hole - are likely still dirty, as well.

Soak the cases in Naphtha for about an hour, let them dry, toss them back in the tumbler and see if the inside of the necks will clean up better. If so, the media isn't aggressive enough or is worn out. I would use crushed walnut media (go to the local Petsmart and get a bag of lizard litter) for better results.

On the other hand, if it is the annealing the OP is talking about - that ain't going anywhere because it's all the way through the brass.

Thanks for all the great tips. Will stop by Petsmart tomorrow after work and look for the lizard liter, my media might be getting old. I have tumbled 1000 rnds of 9 and 1000 of 45. The media was packed inside each case therefore the insides were bearly clean, the black gunk was around the outside of the neck. I have an old bottle of NuFinsih...off to do a load of laundry...how much Nufinish?

When i was using lizzard litter i tried many things mixed into it.
torn up paper towels 1" squares keeps dust down.
The best additive i found to mix with lizzard litter was orange peelings torn into 1/2"-1/4" pieces.
1 or 2 "cutie" oranges .. i let the peelings dry out a little bit on the counter before adding to the media.
I let them dry out for about 24 hours.

I even added bb's and nufinish and used dryer sheets, old socks, fast orange hand cleaner.
meguires carnuba. I even tried to vibrate with hot water and lemishine and dawn...
I wanted the primer pockets and insides to be spotless...
The outsides got clean and shiny but never the insides to my liking.
Damn the shiny things!!!!

I use half lizard litter and half corn cob with a little nu-finish and a little mineral spirits. a couple hours later brass looks great. You can sit your tumbler outside running with the lid off for a little while in a breeze. No more dust.

One trick I used with the vibratory cleaner was to put a few capfuls of low odor mineral spirits in the media when it started getting a little dusty. That always made it clean like new for me.
