Well I had no idea buying a gun was like buying a car...that won't work at Academy, Wal-mart or Bass Pro and I have been in there plenty when I lived near there and never heard anyone haggling on the price...I wish I'd have known.

As for the gouging goes...the problem with buying frenzies is that as a vendor you never know who is buying from you to then go re-sell and make a profit off your back...raising the price when demand goes up is how normal economics works if I recall, and it prevents the opportunists and squatters...BUT, it hurts everyone else...it sux

Best "Haggling" I have seen working the counter was getting 5% off for purchasing the display due to scratches. That or if you have a print ad they can match the ad price.

You know, in the electrical trade I can charge what I feel like charging. Now I have morals and refuse to price gouge every since customer that comes to me with a problem that needs fixed. I feel I charge fair prices and do the best work that I can do at all times. I will never price gouge someone who has an emergency such as losing their electricity and lost their furnace in the winter. I would charge them the same price as I would every other day.

When everyone was in the buying generator craze I did not make my price higher just because everyone was needing service / installations. Seems that these places should be held to the same standard as every other business. I guess they have the right to charge what the want, but they are really sticking it to local customers.

I feel the same as you, but unfortunatly we are in the minority on this. I sell some brass occasionally, to local guys, and sometimes on the web. I haven't taken advantage of anybody in this post election frenzy.

LOL...no I meant SAVAGE not the big guys who match ads...I mean that you can't haggle in the big guy's stores but I used to live near SAVAGE and never saw anyone buying in there offer less than the marked price.

One thing you can do in gun stores, including Bass Pro is use your Tax Exempt farm card to eliminate the sales tax. The Gun you buy, designed to reduce predators preying on your livestock, (resonably priced, and a common caliber/guage) can be depreciated from your taxes.

Last time I was in Bass Pro, the counter guy checking out a guy buying an 870 asked if he had a farm tax card.
