This thread reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend who was a new shooter a year or so ago when he asked me "how much ammo should I have stocked up?" I made the smart assed comment "enough to last the rest of your life".

I wonder if he factored in that I might need to use out out of his stash in a year or two?

I have my fair share of the market but could always use more. I think if a ban doesn't pass I will no longer leave walmart or academy without buying something whether it be ammo or a new firearm.

I have recently picked up some reloading stuff, dies and tumbled brass from a friend of mine at work. I just need a few more components and a lesson to figure everything out. I also need to pick up a .45acp die and I will be set. Well, as long as I can get the components. So, if the ban does not pass I will stocking up on components and reloading what I think I need as well as have stuff for reserve.

The 08 run never affected me simply because I never spent one penny on ammo..Just like this recent run doesn't affect me one bit.....I'm still using components that I bought in South Texas in the early 70's. The younger guys or the ones just getting started are the ones I feel sorry for...

I just dont get the ammo deal, I dont think they are going to stop making it or outlaw it. So why spend a ton of money to stock up on something thats going to be around for a long time? I understand the guns and mags are questionable, but ammo, really?

Having lived through a few cycles of this, I keep a little extra ammo around. I see what a little panic buying can do to supplies and prices.

That being said, remember 1986 when a M16 cost a $200 stamp more than a $600 ar15? They were banned and now cost $10,000+. Or 1989, HK91 was a slightly expensive semiauto rifle. They were having trouble selling them for $500. Import ban hits, they are out of sight now. Some people believe they're buying into that kind of ban, so are willing to pay the high prices. Only time will tell if they are right.

All I know for sure is that it's a bad month to start shooting AR15s.

After 40 years of handloading I have quite a bit of "stuff" accumulated and generally don't need any factory centerfire ammo. People who get into handloading are hoarders or packrats by nature. I'm not an AR guy, but I do have a scoped Mini-14 for calling coyotes and a .223 bolt action I will need to feed. I probably have enough brass and bullets for what I do, but my vulnerable spot is powder and primers. I'm currently putting my list together to try to pick up an 8 pound can of Varget, a couple cans of Trail Boss, a couple pounds of H110, and a couple thousand large rifle, small rifle, and small pistol primers if I can locate them at a reasonable price. Could also use a few .30 caliber jacketed bullets, but I have lots of cast .30 caliber bullets that will do about anything I need. I live in a rural area - thinking about going to Gene Sears' in El Reno to see what I can find. Has anyone been there lately?

Oh - I also want to try some 5744 with cast bullets and I will take another 8 pounder of surplus RG4895 if I run across one. Good stuff!

All I can say is that reloading supplies are usually behind loaded ammo in the panic curve, and usually take longer to restock. Whatever you want for the next year, better get it now. Remember the great primer shortages of the 90's? Can't do much reloading without the primers...

I have a lot of random powder, just never seem to have what I need at the moment :)

It just drives me insane to go to Walmart these days and they are out of almost everything. There will be a line of people standing in front of the case just waiting to wipe out what is left. I will be glad when this rush is over, but it looks like it could be a while!
