Some interesting news has broken in the wake of the latest push for gun control by President Obama and Senate Democrats: Obama sends his kids to a school where armed guards are used as a matter of fact.

The school, Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC, has 11 security officers and is seeking to hire a new police officer as we speak.

If you dismiss this by saying, "Of course they have armed guards -- they get Secret Service protection," then you've missed the larger point.

The larger point is that this is standard operating procedure for the school, period. And this is the reason people like NBC's David Gregory send their kids to Sidwell, they know their kids will be protected from the carnage that befell kids at a school where armed guards weren't used (and weren't even allowed).

Shame on President Obama for seeking more gun control and for trying to prevent the parents of other school children from doing what he has clearly done for his own. His children sit under the protection guns afford, while the children of regular Americans are sacrificed.

Why would this surprise you? Don't you think that children of any US President would be a very attractive target for terrorists? Imagine if they were kidnapped.

What is the definition of a hypocrite? No one can rationally suggest that the lives of a President's children are somehow more valuable than the lives of other children.

What has he done with respect to gun control? How has he prevented "the parents of other school children from doing what he has clearly done for his own?" Anyone with enough money can get their kids into a private school that can afford to hire guards. Or do you think the school his kids go to is the only school in the country with several layers of security? Plus, no matter what his politics are, he's the President and the safety of his kids falls within the scope of national security. I'm all for digging in and doing my best to resist more gun legislation but making stuff up out of fear and/or hatred makes us look like a bunch of mindless fools.

The Declaration of Independence declares: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness...if you have enough money."

The notion that people have to have enough money to pay for their children to be safe at school is ludicrous. The President and others see fit to protect their children with guns. Why are those same protections not extended to others?

Sidwell is a PRIVATE school. If you own or manage a private school you can do just about anything you want to do, to include hiring outside security. If Obama's children were attending a public school, you might have an argument. At a private school it is different.

I know you are emphasizing a different point but the phrase "Pursuit of Happiness" actually refers to the ability to own and use property - i.e. the ability to make money

By this logic, each citizen ought to have Secret Service protection. Or, the Prez could carry a gun and defend himself from attack, like any other citizen.

Like it or not, his kids are more at risk without protection than the common guys kids.
