This is my 65-1, my favorite S&W, the model 13, 3" being my 2nd favorite. I had a Melvin Tyler insert in a smaller framed S&W, but it didn't do it for me. This had the big service grips when I got it. Found these for a different frame and whittled them down and sealed them.

Bottom of grip is `43Jxxx

like i said, that is one BEAUTIFUL gun and a classic too. the J serials started in 1969 and yours looks like an early one from 69-70
