Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's dollars have been defeated again, this time in Wisconsin. Despite Bloomberg dumping $150,000 into the Democrat primary for Milwaukee County Sheriff on behalf of anti-gun Milwaukee Police Lt. Chris Moews with a goal of defeating pro-self defense incumbent Sheriff David Clarke, Clarke was victorious last night. Clarke defeated Moews 52 percent to 48 percent. The race was called Wednesday morning after results were too close to call Tuesday night. Here are Clarke's remarks from last night, before the race was called this morning.
The National Rifle Association, which worked to get Clarke re-elected, has congratulated the Sheriff on his win.
"On behalf of the NRA's five million members, we would like to congratulate Sheriff David A. Clarke on his hard fought victory in yesterday's Primary election for Milwaukee County Sheriff. Sheriff Clarke's outspoken commitment to the Second Amendment earned him the admiration of NRA members and gun owners nationwide," NRA Institute for Legislative Action Executive Director Chris W. Cox sad on a statement. "His dedication to freedom and the Constitution also earned him the wrath of gun control elitist Michael Bloomberg and his allies, who spent over half a million dollars (more money than both candidates in this race combined) trying to defeat Sheriff Clarke. But in the end, Bloomberg's money could not buy the hearts and minds of the voters."
Clarke rose to national fame after telling Milwaukee County residents in a series of radio ads that they should arm themselves to protect against criminals and is an outspoken supporter of the Second Amendment.
