With the inflated prices over the past year, is it worth the money to reload target loads in 12ga or 20ga for clay shooting. 7.5 or 8 shot, maybe 1 to 1-1/18 oz?
I can get a box of Estate Target Loads for around $6, same for Herter's. The Remington Gun Club target loads are about $7.
Not looking for anything 'competition', just recreational, but I do want to break the bird....

It would be tough to break even for standard shells like federal bulk pack by reloading. Using reclaimed shot, you might save a little.

If your talking premium loads, yes, you can save some money.

I reload shot shells because I already have tons of components bought when lead shot was $15 per 25lb bag.

I'm with Dennis, unless you're doing something that has a high shelf cost skip it.
My stuff seldom gets used anymore. Bulk packs are just too cheap and available.

http://www.ballisticproducts.com is about the best place I've found for buying components on line. I can't begin to break even by reloading except on special loads, I can buy the standard field loads at wall mart way cheaper than I can load them. My main shotgun loading is with buckshot or maybe 16 ga which is still cheaper to load than buy new. this company has all the non lead stuff as well.

.410, 28 gauge and 16 gauge is usually cheaper to reload than buy. I save quite a bit on 16, 12, and 10, but that's cause I reload them with black powder for CAS. Factory BP loads are very expensive.
