Sling options for old Remington .22

I have a Remington 582 (tube mag) that i want to put a sling on. Because it has a tube magazine, there's not much meat on the stock forend to mount a sling point. Therefore, i've purchased a slingmount that clamps over the magazine tube.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of sling mount? Does it work well? Is there a preferred point along the tube to mount this?

Anyone have another option that's worked [better] for them?

I have no experience with that type of sling mount but I'd think you would want to be careful not to over tighten it and distort the mag tube.

yeah, that concerned me too. not sure if it's better to mount it right next to the stock or up farther next to the barrel guide.

I would mount it maybe an inch or so above the forend. As previously stated, be careful about tightening it to tight. Should work fine. I have seen tube feed .22's with the sling stud mounted straight into the end of the forend or with a very slight angle below horizonal. Seemed to work just fine in that position also.
