It started with big flakes at 8 this morning and continued heavy with large flakes til about 10 and has been small light flakes since but steady, paved and concrete surfaces are starting to melt now that i have shoveled the parking space for the wifes truck so its not so slick coming up a incline, and im not ever going to drive her truck in this kind of stuff again till i have another set of tires on the back and some more weight in the back, my truck got around just fine in it just took forever for the heater to warm up.

You walked to school on those days in 2 foot of snow uphill both ways if I recall.🤣🤣🤣🤣
We were made of tougher stuff back then. I remember walking to grades school 2 miles in the snow and a guy in a Chevy sedan stopped and gave me a ride and I remember it was so cold he was banging on the speedometer to get it to register properly it was so cold. You are right, schools didn't close for anything and if a student died for some reason they didn't call Social Workers in to help us cope or have a school gathering in the gymnasium. We coped and went on to whatever was next. No help necessary.

Think I'm gonna wander to walmart and watch the fist fights over the last of the milk, bread and bottled water.....just to tickle my perverse sense of humor. Should be as good as waffle house @ 3am!
I went yesterday and they were out of Ramen noodles, eggs, the cheese and hotdog sections were really picked over. Ton of people with overloaded carts. it was crazy.

This isn’t about the students being tough, it’s about their parents not being tough. Today’s kids would be just as tough if their parents would only let them, but if something happens to their little darling on the way to or from school, you know the parents will have a pack of lawyers on the school’s butts.

That’s what gets me—this is Oklahoma. It’s not like the Laura Ingalls stories of Minnesota in the Little Ice Age where the snow was so deep they had to tunnel from the house to the barn; our snow will all be gone by Saturday night.

Ya I member they wouldn't cancel school unless it was a foot deep back in the old days. One big difference is all the buses they run now and the damage that happens in this weather, as well as everybody running late makes it not worth it and they just do the covid school, I call it.
I lived in the Kansas City area in the 90's- a day like today is just another day in that country. Granted they work harder at clearing roads, even main neighborhood roads up there. The thing that P.O.ed me more than anything- I would shovel off the drive and have the way all good and clear- the city would blade the road and leave about a 2 ' pile on the side of the street in front of the driveway. That bladed crap would freeze harder than puberty and you had to take a pick and flat shovel and try and get rid of it so you could get out in the morning. We had a time when it just kept coming for 2 days- that crap drifted up against my garage door all the way to the top. That's heart attack snow we called it.

Hate to sound like a fuddy duddy, but when I was young school didn't close because of snow. Now, I'm watching the news this morning, and it seems every school in the state is closed and it hasn't even started snowing yet.
I was going to make my 14 and 15yo's walk home in the snow. like WE DID. But the wife overruled that real fast...
