This is absolutely true. So many people mistakenly believe money is inherently evil. Nothing could be less true. Money is a tool which rewards hard labor and brilliant ideas. It may improve one's life.

Unfortunately, so many in today's society are content to take the money of others through entitlements and government programs. These people do not seek to better themselves through their own labor, but at the unjust expense of those of us who pay taxes.

Just a minor correction here. "Money" is not claimed to be the root of evil. Also note that it is not the "root of evil," but rather "root of all kinds of evil." I think that is a significant difference from the oft quoted "money is the root of evil" claimed to be taught by the Bible.

Bible - ASV said:
1Ti 6:10
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil: which some reaching after have been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

I do not believe to love money is evil. I believe loving it above all other things, so that one would do or say anything for it, is what is evil. It is not wrong to wish for a better or finer life, particularly if one is willing to work to make such a wish come true. It is wrong to wish for that life paid for by the labor of others.

The King James version says:
1 Timothy 6:10 (King James Version)

10For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

However . . . . .
Inanimate objects can not by definition be evil. Only the use of an instrument can be evil, or good, for that matter.

i.e. guns are not bad, but can be used for bad. And for good.
Money is not bad, but can be used for bad. And for good.

Exactly. Money itself is NOT evil, but the love of money by an individual is an act, and therefore can be evil. What the passage is saying, is that that particular act very easily lends itself to being evil. As money is the tender by which we gather material things, it easily can replace God as our first love in life.

I'll get off my soapbox.

Yeah - this statement is still missing the point of the actual text of the bible (which most folks today miss). Paul was talking about love in the same context as God commands Christians to love.

Christ summed them up as:
‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

If you love money (in context here, more than God or your neighbor), you're forsaking the commandments. Money isn't the key in this statement, love is.

The same could be said of the love of Guns...
