What makes you think they didn't pay into SS? Many paid into it before their job they retired from or a part time job while they were working. I don't know anyone getting SS that didn't pay into it unless they are a spouse of someone who did and passed away. Do you?
Do you know how many of these folks had jobs before, during or after their Federal Employment that they did pay social security taxes on? Why should they be robbed of their social security benefits that they paid into? You’re just speaking from a place of pure ignorance.
If you get a raise from it, there will be a hand in your other pocket. Never a give without first a take.
Wouldn't you want to get out of SSI, what you paid in? They're not adding the years of non SSI taxation to the calculation, they're just letting retirees access what they rightly deserve.
Many that are affected had to work second jobs that held out SS It is unfair that they are being penalized
I know a couple of guys who served in the Air Force - retired - then went to work for a private sector company for 10 or more years [40quarters] so they could draw full SS
Not only what I paid in but also the matching amount that each of my employers paid in on my behalf.
That is not what it does. WEP and GPO reduced SS benefits for people who paid into SS and a Pension plan. They have not been receiving the benefits they paid for. All this does is allow them to get what they paid for - the same as anyone else on SS.
