I just made the leap to a Milwaukee M18 FUEL Quick Lok string trimmer and edger. It is about as heavy as my gas trimmers but it will eat the grass. It has a low and high speed selector, variable speed, and a lot of attachment options. One is a blade for brush and weeds. You might look into this.

I have a moderately sized city yard that I trim and edge every week. The battery has lasted 2 weeks for both operations. One hour recharge.

I use a plastic bladed Stihl head for Johnson grass.
😱 Never use those!

Used blades for a long time, had recently changed out the blades, hit something and they exploded.

Never did find the other half of the blade.

How old is your string? I have a couple of large rolls that are probably 20+ years old and I was having trouble with melting and breaking. I saw something about soaking trimmer line in a bucket of water and tried it. I don’t think I’ve had any melting or breakage issues since then.
I bought it earlier this year.
