I know when you sell a car now that you are supposed to remove your tag as it is registered to you and not the car. My question is, if you buy a used car, can you put the tag on it or do you have to buy another tag?
Speaking as someone who twice got phone calls from the cops at 3am asking me if I still owned a car that I had traded in at large factory dealerships months earlier, I'm not at all in favor of them changing that law back. You keep your tag for your next vehicle.
Stupid law and I recently heard they are creating new legislation to try and change it back to the tag stays with the car
All you have to do to eliminate that problem is tear off the small part at the bottom of the title that lets you document that the vehicle is no longer yours and take it to the tag office to get filed.Speaking as someone who twice got phone calls from the cops at 3am asking me if I still owned a car that I had traded in at large factory dealerships months earlier, I'm not at all in favor of them changing that law back.

That's great, except my titles are old enough that they don't have that tear-off piece. Hell, a couple of them are old enough that they aren't even green...All you have to do to eliminate that problem is tear off the small part at the bottom of the title that lets you document that the vehicle is no longer yours and take it to the tag office to get filed.
