We have some good friends at church that had one installed in their lake home recently, and they LOVE it, but, theirs is electric, and they say that it tends to "cut out on over load" after about 15 minutes and that makes for anasty shock as the water goes from HOT to FRIGID instantly.

We have one and it is fantastic.

Had a few issues last winter with it when it would just stop working. Going from nice hot water to 50° water in a couple seconds while you are covered in soap - not so good.

a commercial grade rennaii can be had installed for right about $1500. That is what our plumber charges us. my company uses a bunch of them in our homes. I think the unit is an E85 model, but there is a new model like an 89 or something. Money well spent if you want endless hotwater. If I was building, I would have one no doubt!

I would double check the amount on that. That is there base model but I am pretty sure the wholesale price on the tank itself is about $1500 and that doesn't include any venting or install kit.

We put one in our last house.I bought the large Bosch one Lowes sells. It was a gas unit. It called for 1"gas line but the 3/4 " I had worked. It put out so much hot water that I had to run the bathroom sink hot water at the same time so I could take a shower. The unit is very flow sensitive. If they don't have enough flow the flame shuts down. Mine broke and Lowes replaced it under warranty. I live in Ponca City and no one within a hundred miles could work on it. The special stainless steel vent piping really cost a lot. I don't know if I would do it again or not. If you go with an electric one, you will have to run very heavy gage wire.

I didn't want to hijack the other thread but we have been toying with this idea. You guys' experiences ... Thankyouverymuch!!

My ex inlaws had one in their house. Seems it actually saves energy by not heating water all the time, and yet has and endless supply on demand. Not sure about their life span or quality, but they never had any issues that I know of.

I was wrong. I double checked the price on the 85 models to they haved dropped some. I still can't imagine someone replacing a tank heater with a tankless for that price. I can see someone charging that for the upgrade on a new house.
