Question for you guys who have a short barreled (18" - 20") gun for home defense.

Is your barrel rifled or smooth bore?

Any recommendations on buying a 'home defense flashlight' for the shotgun. With a magazine extension the mount would be to the magazine tube as the mag extension is as long as the barrel and no place to mount on the barrel.

Thanks.

You can stick all manner of mounts on either the barrel or the mag, but SF is the best. Cheaper, and serviceable is the Falcon railed forend, and a decent light, but a "decent light" (Insight, SF G2 with a 200 lumen LED) with QD clamp is getting right around the same money, so...

Edit: rifled barrels are for sabot slugs. Unless you have a stockpile of sabots, and plan on using the shotty as a large-bore pump carbine, there's no reason for a rifled barrel.

Smooth bore for home/self defense. As far as lights go, I like the newer High output LED light setups as well, but they can cost as much if not more than the shotgun. But if you have the money for it, by all means get one.

Neighbor has a UTG Shotgun Scope Mount with red dot, and light on it.

Like this one, but it has the Picatinny rail on all three sides

You guys with "tactical shotguns" should sign up for the Tom Givens class. We need a few more to make it happen. Look in the training forum.

Oh yeah and mine is a 14 inch smooth bore. Rob gave the best reply.

You don't want rifling in a shotgun meant for HD/SD, even if your using slugs, its meant as a close range stopper. Using rifled barrels with 00Buck is going to send you pattern all over the place, an remember "Once you pull the trigger, you alone are responsible for where those rounds go!"
