Texas' economy is 1/3 of the world's economy. Right now Obozo and his circus have made it impossible to build refineries anywhere. Most of the nation's refineries are in Texas. You think those Damn Yankees will like paying 20.00 a gallon for gasoline? I highly doubt it. If Cushing were to shut off the crude going back East, the useful idiots in DC would be crying uncle before you know it.

How much would OK state income tax have to increase to compensate for federal taxes? Just to pay for defense, road infrastructure, a postal service, and the other government services that we do indisputably need?

It'd get real ugly real fast. OK ain't exactly the most efficient of governments out there.

Not to mention how much the Indian nations could potentially get bent in this.

No needs to raise taxes just do away with the bogus programs we spend billions on already. Taxes would go WAY down!

who is to say the US wouldn't just invade this new nation and take the crude? We did it to Iraq to avoid $20 gas, so why not texas? Unless Texas violently left the union, what actual military equipment would it retain? I don't know for sure, but i suspect a fair amount of the National Guard is still federally funded or leased in terms of military equipment.

Agreed. Say Oklahoma went out on its own. With no trade routes, no guarantee of cross-border access, little revenue, etc. What would stop the US government from levying a large tariff on goods produced in OK so that no one would want/afford them? it's not as easy as just saying 'we are done' and everything goes along as normal minus the feds.

I think this really more symbolic than anything but if it did happen Oklahoma would have to have help from other states like Texas to make it, no doubt.

Well, there IS that bomb factory in the Panhandle. That might make a difference.
