I know this is kind of random, but I wonder why the Barbary Wars don't get taught in school? It set the president for the way a lot of military actions would be taken by this country. Frankly, I think that a lot of what we see going on today are echoes of those conflicts. It makes me wonder if Thomas Jefferson were alive today, how would he deal with the problems we've had overseas this last decade? A bit more aggressively maybe? I don't know. Just a thought I've had.

It seems we still do what Jefferson did, pay until it is no longer in our interest to pay, then overthrow the government. Think Iran with the Shah, Saddams Iraq. Mubarraks Egypt.

Honestly, very little history has ever been taught in school. Mostly just fluff.

Yep. You might believe that public school is intended to produce thinkers and promote intelligent thought, but you'd be wrong. Public school is intended to produce worker bees that do their bidding without too much fuss. Too much intelligence and critical thinking will cause too many uncomfortable questions, and the powers that be can't have that.

They do not cover the Tripolitan War or many others. It makes me mad because i LOVE history! They dont mention the Philippine Insurrection or anything like that. In world history they also skipped out on two that i find very interesting. The Franco Prussian War and the Boer War. Kids dont take history seriously these days. Its now become a blow off class.

"A Peoples History of the United States" by Howard Zinn, should be required reading. Not that its 100% historically accurate, but it does show history in a different light.

This is why our girls stay home with their Mom. A 1:2 teacher-student ratio kicks so much ass we haven't had time for bubble gum in years.

He wouldnt be a part of NATO and we would have won the war buy now. War is cruel, and violent. The more you are the quicker it is over

Some Jack wad got swore in the other year in the senate on his Koran. He had it to better understand his enemy the muslim. Liberal left tried to say that he was a muslim. Go figure. Our second war after the Revolution was with those muslims and there wasnt a politicaly corect word of extremist back then. AHHH the times. Now we try to win the other half over with kindness

Right on the money.
