Just mapping is not enough, probably have a massive sonar array. Think we are not mapped already? Some have mentioned Google Earth Images and Microsoft Earth Images. Not to mention all the cheap and expensive drones, cameras and other items purchased by us from china. They have probably more complete maps of our land, lakes, rivers and seas than we do, not to mention all the infrastructure that is controlled by chinese electronics. Tic Tock was the diversion from what is actually happening. Oh well, I will admit I am a bit paranoid.

Very true. However using them for years on the Great Lakes, the depths were not always accurate due to a variety of factors.

With the antenna array shown, mapping the depths is probably not their mission although more accurate sonar mapping could be doing done.
Radio frequencies, ship traffic, photos of how the lift bridge in Duluth works and how easy it would be to disable it if needed may be what they were looking at? Nobody but the people on that ship knows.
