Worked a call this afternoon on a Chevy Tahoe that had quit in the center lane of NW10th street WB between I-44 and Portland. I hooked the front with my wrecker, and was setting up dollies under the rear axle. My wrecker is BIG and bright red, and I had very bright red and blue lights flashing in my lightbar.

People are coming by me way too fast and way too close. One of them got me while I was bent over. Hit my right elbow and hip. I spun around and faceplanted the side of this Tahoe, then landed on my left knee.

I fell on my side and couldn't tell how far I was from the Tahoe I was hooking up, and for a second thought I was out in traffic. Rolled under the car as fast as I could and just laid there for a minute taking inventory. Several people drove past and not a **** was given by anyone.

Turns out I have a LC9 shaped bruise on my right hip, and a VERY sore knee. Mostly, I'm pissed off.

Quit driving like an ******* around emergency vehicles. Someone could have very easily killed or permanently disabled me today.

Common sense should kick in here but the problem is we have too many idiots out there. You can make all the laws in the world to help protect you but that still wont give people the common sense to slow down and move over.

I'm glad it wasn't worse for you. Ibuprofen is your friend.

I've never understood why people will stop in the middle lane like that. Even if everything dies at 65, you should be able to coast for half a mile at least, and move over in that space.

Could be the driver didn't have the presence of mind to shift into neutral, so the car slowed down to a stop in a hurry. I've never had this happen to me, but wouldn't a dead engine, even with an automatic tranny, cause a vehicle to stop quickly? I'd think hydraulic lock in the heads would keep the crankshaft from turning over enough for the driver to coast to the shoulder.
