Outstanding. Try as they might, the bureaucrats of this world cannot and will not stop the free flow of information. This is a wonderful anarchic solution for providing self defense for all, especially for those in countries in which firearms are not easy to obtain due to oppression. I realize it may not be completely workable or cost effective currently, but I believe it will be very soon... widespread availability of 3D printing will be a major technological revolution, and can be nothing but good for freedom.

I saw this in machine design mag a while back.
Pretty cool, there are limitations to 3D printing.
But it's still pretty cool.
If you can find an import file that they take it'll try and do it.
I've been a 3d printer user for quite a while and it still impresses me.

my biggest concern is bringing the construction costs and capability down to the level of those who would make trouble for the rest of us. Sure anyone with access to a mill and the design and programming ability to run the thing can manufacture weapons. However, if you bring it down to the level of downloading a file and sending to the printer, how long till someone in Iran builds the CAD files to build something horrific and uploads them to a terrorist cell somewhere?

But there are still the limitations of the available materials.....

Anyone with access to some pipe a nail and endplug can make a firearm. . . Let's be honest a punk with a zip gun pops someone in the back of the head they are just as dead as they would be if the guy were a machinist with a mill and some skills.

This does not concern me.

That's about what it takes for a CNC mill.

I don't understand the panic. At all.

Not to mention functional limitations of the materials, but the current cost of the more advanced materials is $10+ / oz.

The company in mention, to get a printer that will pull off the precision required, is easily $25-50 thousand.

Currently, it's about as useful as a $250 plastic screwdriver.

But, OMGxorz, we gots ta ban them 3d printable gunz, cuz some1 can make problems with them!

I'd trust most zip guns better than that printed gun. Not sure why people are sensationalizing this.

No kidding.

Oh, and btw... My name, is the Master!

Because nowadays there are more folks out there that are familiar with a printer than there are that know how to screw a pipe together.

Michael
