I haven't been to either in years, but Westbound at 61st and 33rd W Ave and the VFW in Sapulpa use to fit that description.

Caravan had a live band on weekends in the smaller side room years ago, apparently that must not be true anymore.

If you can make it to the City, there is supposed to be a CW/Dance/Rodeo club. I don't know the name, but it should be neat catching a buzz while watching a skinny cowboy getting thrown off a bull.

caravan is as honky tonk as it gets bud.

back when i hung out in those kinds of places, we went to the caravan alot, but only when a good band couldnt be found elsewhere. like someone else said, caravan = dj + contemporary country/pop + rap music. or at least it was a few years ago. not even close to the kind of place i think the OP was referring to.

it seems like there is more good music around now than there was then, but not in any one particular place. you have to watch the schedules. find the kind of music you like and you will probably find the crowd/atmosphere that goes along with it, but it may be in a different club every week. a good place to look is in "The Current." they have a schedule of who is playing, and when and where.

Your talking about club rodeo. It's ok I guess. I've never seen them have live music. Yes they do have bull riding, not very good bull riding but there is bulls and people trying to ride them. There is a big dance floor. I'd say the music mix is probably 2.5-3 country songs to one rap/line dance song. Of the country about 90% is pop country, you might hear about five Texas/Red Dirt songs a night. Honestly they do try, I've heard Boland, Ragweed, RRB, Stoney, and even Bart Crow all on the same night, but that's a rare occasion. I'm sure they play to the crowds taste so that means lots of pop country and rap.

There's also Grahms but it's basically the same thing only divided into a rap side and a country side that still plays the same pop country/rap mix and less Red Dirt. It also has about 1/3 the crowd except on Thursdays when it's packed. And honesty the crowd there is alot more sketchy but not in a good way. Neither are worth the drive from Tulsa.

The Wormy Dog in Brick town plays awesome live music. The bricktown crowd really isn't my cup of tea but sometimes you do meet nice people there. It's really too small for the bigger name acts like RRB and Stoney and it gets too crowded but for smaller acts its a great place to hear music, but you have Cains in Tulsa so no need to drive unless you really want to see who's playing.

I've heard about other places, such as a joint on SE29th or somewhere in that area, but I have no business being in that part of town after dark.

My favorite in Oklahoma so far is probably the Rockin Horse in Ponca City, especially on Wednesday nights.

Oklahoma doesn't have the population that Texas has and the people are different. Your not going to find the same honky tonks here. Then again I have traveled quite a lot this past two years and I must say Oklahoma comes closer to Texas than any other state I have seen. Try finding a decent honky tonk in Billings, Mt, or Fargo, ND!
