I hope the homeowner was the one doing the shooting.

Police are on the scene of a double shooting in the area of 46th Street South and Granite Avenue.

It appears that the shooting occurred following a residential burglary, police said.

EMSA public information officer Chris Stevens said medics pronounced a man dead whose estimated age is about 50 years old. Stevens said medics also treated and stabilized a 41-year-old man and transported him to Saint Francis Hospital where he is in fair condition.

More information will be provided when it is available.

Sadly I heard the story just a few minutes ago and the burglar wrestled with the home owner, got the gun, and shot him in the head. Truly a sad story!

Here's an updated version of the TW story:

Man killed after responding to neighbor's burglar alarm

By JARREL WADE World Staff Writer

A man who went to investigate after hearing his neighbor's burglar alarm sounding was apparently fatally shot by the burglar, police said Monday.

The alleged burglar also sustained an injury and police are continuing to investigate. A man who was described as being about 50 was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting and a 41-year-old man was transported to a hospital, said EMSA ambulance service spokesman Chris Stevens said.

About 10 a.m., a man heard an alarm going off at his neighbor's townhouse in the 4600 block of South Granite Avenue, Officer Jason Willingham said. He went to investigate and took a gun with him.

He encountered a man who had apparently broken into the townhouse and they got into an altercation. The burglar apparently got the gun away from the neighbor and fatally shot him, police said.

The burglar dropped the gun and took off running into a shopping center parking lot nearby. Police who were responding to the shooting scene took the man, who had an apparent shooting injury to his neck, into custody.

That is not the outcome I was hoping for....

No it sure isn't. Always sucks to hear when a worthless peice of S#%^ kills a person because they are so pathetic they have to steal instead of getting a job and being a productive member of society! Sending my prayers to that mans family!

Suckage... don't want to beat someone when they're down, but legally he didn't have a right to enter that house, it sounds like to me. :(

Very sad situation, though.

No legal right, but he was just trying to look out for his neighbor. Would take a neighbor like that any day!

I know that I have vhecked on a suspicious vehicle that was backed into my neighbors driveway when I knew the neighbor was on vacation. I had my glock in the pocket of my jacket with my hand on the grip the entire time. Fortunately, it was a late night for the dog feeding company (around 11:30pm). I think, at least in my situation, me standing on the sidewalk until someone comes out keeps me perfectly clear. I have every right to be on a sidewalk in my neighborhood.

Did the neighbor enter the townhome, or did this altercation occur outside the residence?
