mine and my wifes turkeys a couple years back side by side.. its the same deal , Both rios.. I think they are like anything else, they can have different colors no matter what the sub-species.. I think easterns are the easiest to tell because they are so dark on their tail feathers..

Both the jakes in the first pictures are rios.. IMO

Here is a good read on turkeys in Oklahoma. The three types of turkeys are all subspecies which means they can and do cross-breed in overlapping habitats resulting in a hybrid of sorts but still a sub-species of the group.

yes. I like this theory. the left turkey is white meat, the right turkey is dark meat.
