Yeah, I should. I figure it was produced at the close of the war, received it's nickel finish shortly after, and wound up in some security guys holster before it wound up in my father's hands.
I guess I did not know or more likely wasn’t willing to admit that I had several vintage S&W revolvers.
There are two 686’s (the wood grip is a newer 686+ “Talo” version, (not sure what the Talo consists of). The 686 -2 with the hogue grips is a little dirty as it is a regular shooter, the rest sit in the safe.
The model 36 chiefs special is from the early 1960’s I got it from the original owner. The other ones are a model 64-5 and a 67 no dash I don’t know the age on these.
i guess I need to shoot more 38 special when I go to the range. I think I have the original wood grips for most of these.

TALO is a distributor that orders from manufacturers in such quantities that they can request specific variations to be produced for them to distribute exclusively. I believe the hallmarks of your 686-6 were the 3" barrel, 7 shot cylinder, and the stocks. I think that S&W moved this into regular production (with exception of the grips) and now distributes them through their normal channels.
It looks like your 67 no-dash has stainless rear sights. These were only on the earliest model 67s. It probably dates to 1972 or 1973.
Thanks for the information. I took the time to look up the years these were born several years ago but did not record it anywhere so is disappeared from my mental hard drive over time..
S&W model 64 NY-1. Made for the NYPD. Bought this about six years ago when J&G sales had these. I think I got the last one.

Lend-Lease" model, originally in .38 S&W, sent to England, and converted to .38 Spl. by the London firm of Cogswell & Harrison, and sent back to the RCMP. My Dad bought it in a GS to have when he took a part-time job as a night watchman, when I was in High School, in the '60s.

686 no dash in factory Midnight Black Stainless. I'm setting up a display at the Smith and Wesson Symposium later this month in Tulsa and this one is one of my feature guns. I have 40 S&W stainless revolvers, no two are alike.
S&W Symposium? did I miss it? (this is the 2oth) when and where? Can we bring ours in for a date check?
It's the 50th anniversary Symposium, it's going to be at the Renaissance Hotel at 71st and 169. You have to be a member or guest to attend, it's not open to the general public like traditional "gun shows". It's Sept 29th-Oct 1st. If you will PM me your serial number I can look up the date of manufacture.
