So my wife and I have been house hunting for awhile now. We have looked anywhere between a brand new house and houses built in the 70's. We both have very modern style, and builders are only just now starting to adopt it as a home-building style so there weren't a ton of options.
Then all the sudden we find this house. It's built by one of our favorite builders here(Awesome reviews, and LEED certified houses with a utility bill guarantee). And it's in our price range. We had just talked to the builder directly about a house in progress in the same neighborhood. But this house we found was bigger, nicer, and a lot less money than the new one.
We looked at the history of the house, and latest owner has only been there since Feb. Something wasn't adding up. I just chalked it up to something maybe unfortunate or life changing. And the price maybe since you could get a new house, nobody wanted one a few years old in the same neighborhood. Their realtor gave us some story about them building a house in the country and that house was just temporary.
But then.. I started doing my thing. I'm checking tax records, etc, etc, etc to see what we can expect. Meanwhile we have an offer in the works on the place. But then I type the owners name in google.. Registered sex offender, convicted of rape by force!
Now it all makes sense. This is a conservative suburban neighborhood with families and kids. I bet they want his A$$ out of there PRONTO. It's good for us from a money standpoint, but at the same time I feel a little bad for the guy. His crime was obviously terrible and he did 15 years for it, but that's gonna follow him around forever. He's listed as high risk and will be registered for life. GEEEEZ. I showed my realtor. She was blown away.
So here we are... Freaking crazy.
