My dad (who is an EE) had a nice slide rule from when he was in college, but I'd be surprised if he used it much (if at all) after graduation. I played with it a bit as a kid, but I never really learned how to use it. Nothing I do requires precision math, so I'm happy to let the machines do the heavy lifting...

Pulp,

Also used the slide rule at Cameron in the 60's. Mostly in Dorothy Tobias' chemistry classes. I did a little maintenance work for her a couple times. Worked on her distillery in the basement. She had a water still and an alcohol still side-by-side.

I had Tobias for Chem2, Ann Nalley for Chem1. I really liked Nalley, she could explain things on my level, which is pretty low. I had Que ? for Organic 1&2. He couldn't explain things on Einstein's level.

Over in the Biology building where I spent all my good time at Cameron was Jack Tyler, who was an exact duplicate of William Peterson's character (Grissom) on CSI. Epperson, Zeigler, Carter, McCoy are some other teachers I had. Very brilliant men.

I went to Cameron from '69 to '72. They went to University right after I graduated.

Used one in the 70's in High School. Calculators were just starting to become common, but I don't remember seeing many at the time.

Been thinking of buying one and relearning how to use it.

So...., what is the punch line?

I was looking for that too, until I realized it isn't like what do an Oklahoma tornado and an Oklahoma divorce have in common?" Of course the answer is that in either case you lose your trailer house.

To the OP--whan were you at Cameron?

When I first started teaching high school, I took over for a teacher who was retiring after 30+ years. When he left, he left almost everything where it was in his room, pens, old VHS movies, old lab supplies etc. I found a whole drawer full of slide rules. I used entire planning periods trying to figure out how to use it. Even google couldn't help, other than to muddy the waters with poorly written instructions. My college degree didn't help me figure out that dinosaur. Maybe I should have studied archeology...

No punchline. Folks here are always complaining about Metcalf being antique and beanie baby gun shows, and when the feller on SASS posted he bought his at a OKC gunshow, that was the first thing that came to mind.

I thought the "slide rule" was don't go down the slide until the other person was out of the way...don't go down head first if it's a gravel playground and don't buddy slide cause it just looks wrong...
