I want to be a gunsmith or firearms instructor

Yeah, me too. Even now I'm constantly messing with mine and all my buddies guns. I do a bit of SDA instruction and all of the local LE requals around here. Too bad I have to maintain a real job to pay the bills, tho. It sure takes away from the other... I have 6 years left before I can retire. After that, I'm planning on going to the gunsmithing school at Murray State College. - Tishomingo. Maybe I can supplement a meager DOC retirement check with gunsmithing and some SDA classes...

I was doing some studying tonight for my Special Ed certification exam, and it got me thinking about how much my life has really changed over the years. In regards to where I always thought I would be career wise; I am now on the complete opposite end of the spectrum from my original dreams!

I started going back to school in 2006 in the field of Criminal Justice Administration, I always dreamed of what I could do, and helping people in the justice field. I never wanted anything else since I was probably 8 years old. In 2010 I graduated with a B.S. in Criminal Justice Administration. before I graduated I had the opportunity to work for Oklahoma County Sherrifs Office as a Detention Officer. I did that for a year and then I got a job at Cleveland county sheriffs office as a Detention Deputy. The thing both of these jobs had in common is that I DESPISED them both from day one!

All of this was the start to what I refer to as my 40 years of wandering the desert, I left the sheriffs office and vowed I would never work any kind of law enforcement again. I jumped from job to job for a couple years and began to hit some real lows. I began to doubt any abilities I thought I had, any skills I felt I learned and then I began to even kick myself for the debt I got myself in with 4 years of student loans. I just felt like life had peaked and this was as good as it was going to ever be for me.

BUT ALAS, God has so many other plans for me. It took me totally giving up all the dreams I HAD FOR MYSELF and hitting bottom in the career aspect to truley give God control. That is when he began to move in my life, soon I took a crazy chance and decided to look into a program the State Department of Education has for individuals with a Bachelors Degree. With the degree and the a few other steps to meet I was accepted into the states Alternative Education Certification Program. This program allows people accepted to become certified teachers in the state if they pass the required tests and other steps that are required.

Over this last summer I decided to try to get on a school so I could at least be in the system when I finished the process. And again God gave me more than I could have ever hoped or asked for. I was offered a position at Moore Schools working in elementry as a 1 on 1 Special Education resource teacher. This is a non-certified position that doesnt pay as much, but allows me to work 1 on1 with Special Ed kids.

After all is said and done, I have finally figured out this is exactly what God has always wanted for me. So now all I have to do take my test for Mild to Moderate Disabilities on the 25th and then wait until the end of this school year and I will get my 1 year conditional teaching certification for Special Ed.

Sorry for the long winded story, but most happy endings always take a while to get to the end. LOL. So anyways I just wondered what others here have experienced in this type of area of life. What kind of job or career field did you always see yourself doing? and what are you doing now? ect.

Just want to hear any interesting stories! Thanks for sharing in advance....

Going through the alternative certification program right now myself.

I've taken and passed the OGET, and Business Education OSAT. Took the Int/Mid level math exam last weekend and am currently waiting to see if I passed. Within the next few weeks I should get my interview with the panel and hopefully will have my certification and be ready to apply for positions available 2012-2013.

When I was a kid I either wanted to be Clint Eastwood, or M. Spock. Okay, so I wasn't that bright. Anyway, I wanted to be a police officer when I was a late teen. More specifically, a motorcycle cop. It made perfect sense. #1: You get to carry a gun. #2: You get to ride... a lot... for money! #3: You get to harass stupid idiot moron drivers. I went to OSU Tech (now OSU OKC) to get an associates in police science. I had already had a taste of working and making money, so college was short lived.

I was eating, sleeping, breathing, and living motorcycles 24/7/365. I ended up going to Harley-Davidson school, and have few to no regrets... other than not going in to porn like Peanut. It has been a great ride.

Now, thanks to a balance disorder, I just do engines and transmissions, and just bench work, which is what I grew to like the most anyway. I weld a lot of cast aluminum. Nasty, old, crappy Harley-Davidson cast aluminum. Cheap bastards. I also teach music classes at our youngest son's school, pre-school through eighth grade, on Wednesdays and Thursdays. It pays nothing, but I really love doing it. Oh, and I always wanted to be a rock star too.

That's awesome Rusty! Congrats. I love working for the schools and I love working with kids. One of the great things about doing what I am doing right now is that I have changed from alternative placement to "alternative pathways". It is different because the state board considers what I do now in the classroom as my student teaching time. Also the positives to the route I am on now is that I don't have to go before the teacher review panel for the interview because I am already placed int he classroom. Also I don't have to have 18 additional credit hours in this field, I only have to have 12 hours because of the program I am doing. IT"S PRETTY SWEET!

I really hope you love it as much as I do, congrats and good luck!

I wanted to be in law enforcement. Now im stuck in a call center doing tech support. I have had some jobs that I LOVED along the way. in high school I got to unload train railcars that were hauling new ford and damler cars... it shut down in tulsa after highschool :(... then I had an easy gig doing Q.A. in the GM plant inspecting final product rolling off the assembly line, we all know how that one turned out... then I worked at gunword, I hated the store, but I LOVED the work I woke up happy everyday knowing that I got to go into that big candy store and fondle there guns for a living (if you can call what he paid a living) while carrying my own. it was the best and worst job ever.

Always wanted to help people somehow.

Maybe someday I'll get the chance.

I'm of that mindset.
For now, I buy raffle tickets for FFA kids, special needs kids, etc. You know where I'm going. Even if ones life is too busy to actually put boots on the ground for something, one can do the same with the back pocket. The folks that do have the time, will appreciate it.

Double naught spy or maybe a Brain Surgeon. LOL

Well when I was a young-un, I wanted to be a doctor, then later I wanted to be an astronaut. I studied Electronics technology when I was in college the first time I was in college. I got side tracked by life, did a bunch of jobs that I really hated but payed the bills (sort of). Later I went back to college and got a BS in pre-med biology, planned on going on to be a PA, but ran out of energy, money and motivation all about the same time. Taught a semester of dummy science (zero level classes) as a graduate teaching assistant. Spent some time in retail management and finally ended up where I am today.

I guess the dream that has been with me the longest is to be an author. I still write some, only for my own pleasure, I guess. But I'd really like to be on the best sellers list!
