For example, some people like to grease the rails instead of oil them on a 1911-A1...or all new SIG rifles come with a sample tube of TW-25B grease as if you MUST use it? There seems to be two opposing positions on gun grease because it attracts crud, but I just need to know whether to use it or not on the affor mentioned examples or other guns, or scenarios when grease is a must. Seems like it might be useful for break-in at least, but right now I am leaning back over in the no-grease camp and would like to ONLY use it on parts and firearms it is a necessity.

Thanks!

Everyone has their pet lube...in the end, just lubing it is more important than what lube you use, especially if you are just talking hobby use vs. sustained firing in dirty conditions.

I use ball bearing grease for my Sig M400. It works great. Especially in the summer time when the gun really heats up. But I never use it on any of my other firearms. On my glock I just use Militec 1 synthetic oil and lube. I also use it on my saiga 12. Works fine for me. The grease does attract a lot of dust and dirt but never affects the performance of my rifle. I am not rolling around in the dirt so it isn't that dirty to begin with.

Okay so on the M400 do you use grease ONLY in a certain part of the weapon and oil elsewhere or do you use grease in place of oil entirely???
