My parents own 160 acres in outside of Harrah and another 120 acres outside of Meeker. They were interested in leasing it out for hunting (rifle) and were wondering what the going rate is for something like that. They also own 40 acres but its within OKC limits so they were thinking about using that for bow hunting.

Anyone got some rough figures?

Can't help you out with your question, but I do have a comment or two. Leasing land for hunting has ruined it for the locals who use to be able to just walk up and ask the land owners if a person could hunt.

I use to have thousands of acres, multiply land owners, who let me hunt only for the asking. One day, some folks from the city found out that there was some awesome hunting around here. Money trumps everything, I guess.

Please don't get wrong, I believe in the free market, except for when it involves me. :rollingla Do I wish I had the money to own land to hunt? You bet. I also wish I had the extra money to lease hunting land. It's a love hate kinda thing.

Yes, I'm a tightwad.

agreed. I own 40 acres in the middle of a 5000 acre ranch. unfortunately due to the owner turning into a greedy bitch, she only accepts cold hard cash now. used to be able to help out on the ranch and gain some neighbor rights to hunt or just able to ask for a day of being able to hunt it.

Depends on what type of land and # of deer and quality. $5-15 an acre is average

OK, so when you say what type of land, what does that mean exactly? What I do know about the property is that both used to be used for raising cattle. In fact, there may still be a farmer out (or was until very recently) a farmer for raising cattle. I've walked around a few times out there, its a mixture of grass and trees, brush, pretty far removed from any heavily traveled highway, I do recall seeing a few salt licks out there (lol, i know I'm a n00b at this :rollingla). Actually, to be more specific, its at the southeast corner of NE 108th and N Harrah Rd. THat's about all I know.

Is that $5-$15 an acre for a year or hunting season or whatever?

Greed ruins hunting. Nothing more ridiculous than some city slicker with more money than sense all decked out in his latest Eddie Bauer costume carrying his $10,000 firearm pretending to be a great white hunter. I'd rather not hunt at all.

This is where I'm at. I love deer hunting. Leasing land makes me feel sick. Growing up, we asked land owners and got permission. Then we'd help them fix fence or something.
