For someone who doesn't bother with online shopping. They don't need anything fancy and expensive, just reliable and functional. The hammer and punches don't necessarily need to be sold in a set they both just need to be reliable enough to make it through one job without breaking or bending all to hell.

Are the offerings at Academy or Bass Pro any good or is he better off going to a gun/accessory store? Which brands would you recommend? Would prefer to keep it around Edmond or North OKC.

Sears has always carried some good quality punches. I think they even carry a Lyman brand roll punch set.

I've been curious about the Craftsman punch set. I have a set of Lymans that seem ok, but I worry about the smaller punches. I've had no issues with them so far with minor disassembling jobs, but they seem softer than they should be. Maybe it's just my particular set (not sure how many options Lyman has).

My small Craftsman punches have always broken at some point. One thing to keep in mind is the Sears at Quail Springs is liquidating everything, so you might get them for a really good price right now.
