Who works or has worked shift work?

Here I am second shift in to a nine shift set of nights. Generally we work 7 on of 12's and 7 off rotating nights and days but I am covering for a fella....24 extra hours of O.T. with shift differential .

Any how who here works shift work or have before. Also whacha do? I know we have some peace officers and some oil patch hands around here.

I am a natural gas plant operator BTW.

I did once before and am doing it again. My first shift work position was working for the old Texaco/Burger King that was at 23rd and I-35. I worked one day from 2-10 AM, but later that night my truck was stolen just after midnight and I wasn't able to make it in for obvious reasons, so they fired me. Whatever.

I work on Tinker as a server engineer/security admin. Here right now actually in an office with 8 others doing the same, or similar, work. Everyone told me I wouldn't like this shift, especially since I had worked 6:45 AM-3:30 PM for so many years before, but all I had to do was swap my sleep and work. It took maybe two working days before I made it through the night without being sleepy, but now it's no problem. In fact, I rather enjoy it now, especially for the security at home, considering there's typically someone at home 24/7, between me and my wife, who knows how to work a 12 gauge, fire extinguisher, etc.

I'm same way i guess. by night #2 im good to go. last night started getting rough around 3AM. I am also the only one here at this 40+ acre industrial facility out in the boonies (one security camera and a junk chain link fence)...unless I am having problems like plant go down or having trouble with the process or my engines.

Been doing it 2 or 3 months full time now. I am suposed to be the relief, the fill in guy, that here 5 days a week unless some one is sick or on vacation.

I work 3rd shift 11pm-7am at bama making biscuits. This week i'm pulling 12's because a guy on first shift is on vacation so i'm working 11pm-11am.

I've been on rotating shifts for 25 years now. When I first started it was 8 hour shifts, worked 7 graveyards, off 2, 7 swings, off 1, 7 days, off 5. Now the whole mill is on 12 hour rotations, 4 nights, 3 off, 3 days, 1 off, 3 nights,3 off, and 4 days, 8 off. When you don't have to cover vacancies, you basically only work 14 days or nights a month.

BTW, I'm at the big paper mill at Valliant.

Worked a rotating shift for 34 years. Changed shifts weekly. Never did get used to it.

I work 10p-6a, love it. I sometimes go whole weeks without having to talk to another living soul while at work.

Yeah rotating shift would not be fun. Thats what a friend of mine does pushing coal at og&e power plant, he doesnt have much to say about it thats good. I am glad we do 7 on 7 off swap days and nights. Getting to where I REALLY like the nights with all thats going on right now. No contractors, management, field hands or anything to deal with. Im luckey to get a call after 8pm unless they are returning my calls. Its quiet and I like it.

I worked shift work doing security until I got a "real" job in 2010. Now I'm M-F 8:00 - 4:30 with weekends & holidays off. It's so nice not having to worry about being sent to a different shift any given month.

I've been on 8's since jan 2009. Before that i was working 6pm-6am on a 3-2-2-3 schedule.
