The peranants: 6.0 chevy quad cab Z71 did not over heat. Got it home and smelled coolant popped the hood and saw it leaking. Let it cool down and when I went to look at it it was broken.

Looks to be the heater core, could possible be quick connects that failed.

Your looking at like a $10 part, $10 tool, coolant and like 20 min of time

It's a 30 minute fix man, don't sweat it. There is a tool you use to attach a quick disconnect to the heater hose to get the piece still attached to the heater core off. Then you can buy a new fitting at the parts store, it's a piece of cake as far as those turds go.

I was going to write you a repair procedure with pics but found one already made. Here is another link for the repair, its very detailed with pics, part numbers and tools involved. Those tools can be rented/borrowed from local auto parts stores too.
